According to the Australian media ABC report, more than 140,000 international students have been turned away by the government since the travel ban was implemented. In comparison to Australia, Canada’s attitude towards international students during the pandemic was significantly different. Canada continues to introduce measures aimed at attracting and retaining old students amidst the pandemic. Firstly, the federal government allowed students, whose status has expired to restore it until August 31, 2021. Secondly, Canada allows new students whose designated learning institutions (DLI) have the approved COVID-19 readiness plans to come to Canada. Finally, starting January 27, 2021, and until July 27, 202, international graduates, whose Post-Graduate Work Permit has expired can apply for an Open Work Permit for 18 months so they can obtain Canadian Work experience to apply for permanent residence
