In 2014, the government of Nova Scotia set a goal of increasing the number of international student immigration by at least 10%. According to statistics in 2018, the proportion of international students who chose to stay in Nova Scotia after graduating from university reached 12.6%, a significant increase from 9.4% in 2017. The number of international students studying in Nova Scotia has continued to increase significantly each year. To assist international students, the Nova Scotia government has set up the EduNova project to allocate funds for international students. It provides 50 international students with employment guidance and assistance each year. At least 80% of them chose to stay in Nova Scotia after graduation.
