Every fifth Ontario nominee in 2020 represented the IT sector.

According to the annual report about the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), the province nominated 1,604 persons out of 8,054, whose main occupation was one of the following:

  • Software engineers and designers - 528
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers - 374
  • Computer and information systems managers - 172
  • Database analysts and data administrators - 162
  • Web designers and developers - 96
  • Computer engineers (except software engineers and designers) - 63

In addition, OINP nominated 209 candidates in all other tech occupations.

The vast majority of those individuals received a nomination via the Human Capital Priorities Stream of the OINP in the so-called OINP Tech Draws.

In total, Ontario held five Tech Draws in 2020 and invited 4,385 candidates, however not all of them accepted the invitation.
