On August 31, 2021, the Government of Canada reached an agreement with the USA to support refugees’ travel to safety. As part of this work, Canada will welcome up to 5,000 Afghan nationals who have served for both countries and whose evacuations were facilitated by the United States.

These Afghan refugees will be accepted as part of the program that Canada recently announced for some 20,000 refugees.

This program will include persecuted Afghan minorities, Afghan women human rights advocates, journalists, as well as LGBTI individuals.
